USS Gudgeon (SS-211) was a U.S. Navy submarine with a notable service record in World War II before being lost in 1944. Commissioned in 1941, she was the first American submarine to sink a Japanese ship in the war and went on to complete multiple suc USS Snook (SS-279) was a U.S. Navy submarine that served in the Pacific during World War II and was lost in 1945 under uncertain circumstances.
