The Gulf of the Farrallones National Marine Sanctuary is home to some of the world's largest Great White Sharks and they are mostly undisturbed by human intrusion due to the Park Status and remote location of the islands themselves, this allows for the public to see the animals in their natural setting. These islands (Southeast Farallon, Middle and North Farallon) 28-35 miles off the coast of San Francisco are the fall and winter water playground of adult Great White Sharks measuring 12 to 22 feet long. (4.5 meters to 6.1 meters). The sharks come to the Farrallones to feed on the local populations of up to 6 species of Pinnepeds including the Northern Elephant Seal and California Sea Lion found there during the fall and early Winter. Ocean Outreach has partnered with adventure company "Incredible Adventures" to create one of the largest great white shark advocacy and awareness experiences in the US. We were the first to introduce educational and outreach programs for these animals at the islands, we've been heavily involved in shaping the rules and regulations included in the new MLPA for the last 4 years and have led the way by introducing trained naturalists and educational programs while at the islands. In the future we will continue to set the bar for public education and access to these magnificent apex predators. Ocean Outreach's involvement with Incredible Adventures allows us a commercial platform to build on for the benefit of not only the animals at the island but the public very interested in seeing these animals up close. Our outreach program is helping to maintain the sharks and their unique environment by fostering a sense of stewardship in both the animals and place, we make this more than an amusement park ride or trip to the aquarium. Together with our team of dive instructors, naturalists and shark diving specialists, we help you gain a unique experience most people will never have their entire lives. You get to see the real place and the way the animals really live. Currently we are 1 of only 2 organizations permitted to use decoy attractants at SE. Farallon Island due to our commitment to building public education and access. While we use decoys to attract great white sharks closer to the boat so that passengers can better observe these magnificent creatures, we are really at the Farallons to observe natural feeding events. This isn't a trip to your local aquarium. It's a rare opportunity to watch as a giant great white shark hunts and consumes its prey in it's home waters. Our naturalist and crew staff is a highly trained and experienced group, having worked with organizations such as The Marine Mammal Center, Oceanic Society, Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, Monterey Bay Aquarium as well as the CA. Dept. of Fish and Game among others, several hold degrees in marine biology and other related fields. Our entire boat staff is required to take the naturalist training offered by the GFNMS in San Francisco so that they can all be qualified to pass on the latest and most correct information to the public. We are constantly trying to improve as the ultimate benefit is the subject of our attention at the Farallones. The Sharks.
